Our Future Is Buried

Mining is the most fundamental industry in human development.

Civilizations live and die by their control of 2 things –

energy and
minerals
.
When resources dry up, prosperity comes crashing down.
[1]
[2]

How Bad Is It?

Bad. We're bleeding critical minerals to foreign rivals

[3]
. Half the workforce will retire within the decade leaving no one to replace them
[4]
. We need to produce roughly 7× more metals than we are currently to reach 2050 climate goals
[5]
[6]
, and bureaucracy is burying our resources in red tape before we can even dig

How It All Works

Mining involves a highly calculated chain reaction of operations that most of us never see, don't understand, and can't live without. How do we go from bare dirt to a supercomputer containing nearly the entire periodic table

[8]
in our pockets? Let's find out.

Exploration1-5 years

01

Finding valuable mineral deposits requires searching for a needle in a haystack – and the needle is buried underground.

Prospect

Map the geology and analyze anomalies to identify potential mineralized zones.

Bottleneck
Drill

Drill

Extract core samples to confirm what's below. Drilling accounts for majority of exploration cost.

Assay

Test the samples for mineral content and grade to decide if it's worth proceeding.

Feasibility10-15 years

02

Before breaking ground, we need to prove the deposit is worth mining and meets all regulatory requirements.

Economics

Calculate potential profits against operational costs and market conditions.

Impact Study

Evaluate environmental and social effects to make sure it's safe.

Permit

Submit proposals, safety plans, and operational details to regulators.

Development7-50 years

03

Convert raw earth into a functioning mine, process the ores, and ship refined materials worldwide.

Construct

Prepare land and build towns, railroads, utilities, support facilities, and the mine itself.

Operate

Deploy equipment and begin extraction and processing of raw ore for market.

Reclaim

Close the mine and restore the land to its original state.

Why More Exploration Matters

To build more mines, we need to widen the top of the funnel:

Exploration
. A process that requires an expensive cycle of drilling
[9]
, assays, data analysis – then raising capital based on the results to continue more drilling
[10]
.

CAPITAL

If costs kill a project early, exploration grinds to a halt. This is mainly due to

core drilling
, a technology that hasn't fundamentally changed since inception
[11]
, and consumes the majority of exploration budgets

Durin is building modern, automated rigs to double the efficiency of today's drillers and send data straight from the rig to the geologists—streamlining the process, cutting the guesswork, and enabling explorers to make quicker decisions with less capital at risk.

Accuracy

Closed-loop controls means less human error and higher precision. Maintenance shifts to predictable, not panicked.

Safety

Automated systems handle the most hazardous, repetitive tasks. Operators stay clear of danger, supervising from a distance.

Efficiency

The same team that used to handle one rig can manage several. Covering more ground to reach deeper targets, faster.

We are iterating on prototypes to soon begin mass-manufacturing drilling rigs and operating them ourselves in the field. As we scale our fleet across North America, we will vertically integrate: assays, geophysics, and data analytics—removing middlemen, reducing turnaround times, and accelerating the entire exploration process.

Durin was founded under the belief that raw materials should not be a constraint on human progress. We are actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of becoming the bedrock of the global supply chain.

It's time to mine.
